Mission:

The Couch Middle School Counseling Department empowers students to become independent, responsible, and resilient through compassionate support, advocacy, and comprehensive counseling services that promote emotional well-being, academic success, and a lifelong commitment to learning and service. 

Vision: 

The vision of the Couch Middle School Counseling Program is to promote a safe, inclusive, & empowering school environment where all students strive for excellence. Our students will be equipped with the academic, social/emotional, & career-readiness skills to achieve their post-secondary goals, thrive as lifelong learners & compassionate leaders. They will become well-rounded, responsible, & contributing members of a diverse society — demonstrating resilience, empathy, & a heart for service.

Welcome to 6th grade! Couch Middle School is thrilled to highlight Dana Wiley, our dedicated 6th Grade Counselor! Now entering her 6th year as a school counselor and her 3rd right here at Couch. Mrs. Wiley is passionate about guiding our newest middle schoolers through this exciting transition! Born in Indiana and raised in Minnesota, Mrs. Wiley brings both heart and expertise to our community. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix, her Master’s degree in School Counseling from Capella University, and holds the prestigious National Certified Counselor (NCC) credential. Mrs. Wiley’s primary focus is all about empowering students to thrive academically, socially, personally, and as they begin exploring future careers. When she’s not inspiring students in the halls, you can find her out on walks, playing a game of badminton, setting sail on cruises, and above all, making unforgettable memories with her family!

Mr. Shaaron Sinvilcin - shaaron.sinvilcin@gcpsk12.org
Shaaron Sinvilcin, our 7th grade counselor, is from the state of New York. Mr. Sinvilcin holds his  Bachelor’s degree in Communications from American International College, a Master’s degree in School Counseling from Mercy College, and an Educational Leadership Degree from the University of Bridgeport. He is entering his 18th year in education & his third year at Couch Middle School as a school counselor. He values being actively involved with the school and the surrounding community, through coaching basketball, mentoring and community service. As the 7th grade school counselor, Mr. Sinvilcin’s primary focus is supporting students academically, socially-emotionally and career development planning. Mr. Sinvilcin loves to play basketball, exercise, watch movies, and spend time with his family!

Aneisha Christie, our 8th grade counselor, is a Georgia native. Ms. Christie holds her  Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Kennesaw State University, a Master’s degree in School Counseling from Georgia State University, and an Education Specialist Degree from Fort Valley State University. She is entering her 10th year as a school counselor & her second year at Couch Middle School. She values being actively involved with the school and the surrounding community, through coaching volleyball and community service. As the 8th grade school counselor, Ms. Christie’s primary focus is aiding students in the high school  transition by promoting and supporting academic achievement, personal and social development, and career planning for every student. However, she loves to play, watch, and talk about sports!

What We Do:

The Couch Middle School Counseling Program provides a proactive, data-driven program designed to support the academic, career, and social/emotional development of each and every student.

Delivery of Services

Direct Services (Working Directly with Students)

  • Instruction: Preventive school counseling lessons based on ASCA Student Standards.
  • Appraisal & Advisement: Assessing student abilities, interests, and achievement.
  • Short-Term Counseling: individual & group sessions.

Indirect Services (Supporting Behind the Scenes)

  • Consultation & Collaboration: Partnering with all stakeholders.
  • Advocacy: Representing student interests in student-focused meetings.
  • Referrals: Connecting families with community resources for long-term support.

Program Foundation & Standards

  • Data-Driven Focus: We analyze data to identify needs and remove barriers to learning.
  • Program Assessment: We assess our program effectiveness regularly.

Peer Leadership Program

Peer Leaders will participate in dedicated training throughout the school year to develop their citizenship and leadership skills. By the end of the year, they will be equipped to support their peers, demonstrate professionalism, and serve as strong role models.
